Modern Experiments in Atomic Physics
By Klaus Blaum und Wilfried Mainz, Sommersemester
2007 | 215 Pages | ISBN n/a | PDF | 14.6 MB | German

The lecture intends to introduce in the principles and methods, experiments of modern atomic physics and molecular physics are based on. The students are inducted to current experimental capabilities in this area, which have become more important again since a few years, because of new developments in laser technology as well as cooling and storage of atoms and ions in traps. Among others, this is indicated by numerous Nobel prizes, which have been awarded in atomic physics resp. for experiments with stored and cooled ensembles in the past years.
Total lecture notes:
1. Atomic, molecular and ion beam sources
2. Detection of atoms and ions
3. Optical spectroscopy
4. Radio-frequency spectroscopy
5. Storage and cooling of charged particles
6. Traps and cooling for neutral atoms
7. Modern experiments with charged particles
8. Modern experiments with neutral atoms
9. Outlook
