About the Book:

Toread a good book on nano science and technology, the readers shouldhave a reasonable grasp of quantum mechanics, which is dealt with inthe first chapter in some detail. Then, two chapters are devoted on howto make different types of nano materials that are useful for variousapplications with their mechanical properties. Three more chapters dealwith the most important magnetic, electronic and optical properties ofnano materials citing the most useful and the most well-studiedmaterials of importance today. From these chapters, a future directionon the type of experimental insights can be obtained, and this shouldultimately trigger theoretical work in the realm of nano science andtechnology for all concerned.

In the final chapter, the authordeals with the novel technique such as sol-gel and many other methodsthat have been popular in recent times, along with a survey onnano-optics, nano-magnetics and nano-electronics. All these subjectsare attracting a lot of attention of the scientists and technologistson the one hand and on the other hand, both undergraduate andpostgraduate students in various universities and institutes.

About the Author:
Dr. A.K. Bandyopadhyay, now a Professor at the Govt. College of Engineering&CeramicTechnology, Kolkata, has a long association with nano materials andrelated subjects for over 25 years both in India and in theinternational arena.

After obtaining B.Tech. in Ceramics fromCalcutta University in 1971 and M.Tech. in Metallurgy from I.I.T.,Kanpur, in 1974, he did his Ph.D. from Sheffield University, U.K., in1977 on Amorphous Materials. After a post-doctoral work on Solid StateBattery Systems at Sussex University (UK), he worked as a scientist inCNRS Materials Science Laboratory at Montpellier for six years incollaboration with various renowned laboratories in Europe and USA.

Afterworking  with various multinational companies and gaining usefulindustrial experience, he has again come back to teaching and researchon various aspects of nano technology including theoretical research onnano ferroelectrics and photonic materials during the last six yearswith an active collaboration with some universities in the USA. He hasmore than 50 publications in international journals and he teachesQuantum Mechanics, Solid-state Physics and Glass Science at the moment.
