    1. The white layer is the result of the solidification of a melted zone and is known to exhibit high hardness, good adherence to the bulk and good resistance to corrosion。
    2.The hardness of the white layer is typically HV = 700–1200.Therfore, in this experimental study, white layer is twiceas hard as the steel matrix .high hardness is probably due to the high carbon content of the white layer
    3. The white layer machined in dielectric oil presents different microstructures: dendritic and columnar structures with different sizes.
    4. The white layer essentially consists of residual austenite with some martensite sublayers and an austenitic columnar structure with a very thin thickness located at the interface white layer/HAZ.
    5. cooling rate at the white layer/HAZ interface is found to be higher than at the surface. 
    6. The HAZ is composed of tempered martensite and is identified as the origin of microcracks.
    7. The high concentration obtained at the top of the surface has been demonstrated to come from the dielectric cracking.
